Apparently I am not alone in my wish for a simplified tax code… and in my desire to pay less to the government.

According to a poll by the Tax Foundation, 80% of respondents believe that the federal tax code is “somewhat complex” or “very complex”. In addition, 52% of people would willing to give up deductions in favor of a flat tax. According to Tax Foundation spokesperson, Bill Ahern, matching the revenue produced by the current tax code would require a flat tax of 9%.

When respondents were informed that more than 40 million filers would have a net tax liability of $0 (or less), 63% felt that this was unfair and that everyone should be required to support the government. 65% of people rated the benefits they receive from the taxes they pay as “poor” or “only fair”, and 59% of people felt they paid too much in taxes.
